Maurizio Atilli was born and raised Rome, Italy and arrived in the United Sates in the fall of 1989. In 1986 he graduated from the University of Rome with a major in English, the language of rock and blues, and a minor in Portuguese, the language of bossanova. In 1987 Maurizio received a teaching assistantship in English at the University of Toledo. There the English Department allowed him to take classes in music theory, music history, arranging, composition and classical and jazz piano. After graduating in English in 1991 he received a graduate teaching assistantship in Latin. As previously, his new department sponsored his music studies and in 1999, wishing to pursue a graduate degree in music, Maurizio too advantage of his gift for languages and obtained an assistantship in Spanish at the University of Akron. Upon completion of an M.A. in Spanish Maurizio was offered a graduate teaching assistantship in music theory. There he taught ear-training, sight-reading and basic theory. He graduated two years later with a Masters in Music. His thesis was a comparison of Faure’s Requiem, Poulenc’s Gloria, and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms on the basis of their harmonic language. He expects to graduate in the fall of 2006 from the University of Akron with yet another Masters degree, this time in Music History.

Maurizio has taught and tutored a wide variety of subjects and languages for many years. A perpetual student and teacher, he joined the faculty of The Ohio Conservatory in2005. He will probably continue to earn new Master’s Degrees for the rest of his life. His love for music remains undiminished.
